Susan Anzalone, MD is a board-certified neurologist who did her clinical fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Before that she completed her neurology residency at Loyola University Chicago Medical Center. Her PGY2 and intern years were completed at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. She went to medical school at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and completed her undergrad studies in Sociology at University of Colorado at Boulder.
Dr. Anzalone is board-certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Her professional associations, memberships and accolades are wide-ranging and include the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) where she was chosen to participate in “Neurology on the Hill” where she advocated for patient rights in DC. She was one of ten neurologists chosen to be a member of the AAN Small Practice Leadership Team in 2018. She is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) and Colorado Medical Society (CMS). She has served as the principle investigator for the ofatumumab and BTK clinical trials. She participated in the ocrelizumab and fingolimod trials while in fellowship. She regularly participates in international and national conferences such as the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS), American Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ACTRIMS), Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC), the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting (AAN), and Recent Advances in Neurology (RAIN) a yearly review at UCSF.
Dr. Anzalone is committed to providing superior care for patients with multiple sclerosis and other immune-mediated neurologic diseases through advocacy, evidenced-based medicine, service and integrity.
Dr. Anzalone has served on the board of the National MS Society (NMSS) and is currently their only “Partner in MS Care” in the Denver/Boulder area. Dr. Anzalone presented “Breakthroughs in MS” for the NMSS in February 2020. She is also on the speaker bureau for the MS Association of America. She was a the recipient of the Biogen-Idec Fellowship Grant and the National MS Society Fellowship Grant for her fellowship at UCSF in 2015. She was chosen to be a fellow at the 2014 CMSC/ACTRIMS conference. Dr. Anzalone has led 3 NMSS Walk MS Teams in San Francisco, Denver and Boulder and continues to advocate for people with MS. Dr. Anzalone has extensively traveled throughout Central and South America, SE Asia, Africa and Europe, serving on medical missions to Kenya, Uganda and Ecuador. While in Ecuador she spent a day with a Shaman learning traditional and spiritual healing techniques.
Additionally, Dr. Anzalone has studied over 200 hours with world-renowned yoga teacher Rod Stryker, recently just completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training (YTT) in Denver, and finds yoga and meditation to be a critical component to her own spiritual, mental and physical health. Dr. Anzalone combines the latest research and cutting-edge medications with natural, integrative and alternative approaches to achieve superior results for her patients. In addition to utilizing high-efficacy treatments to stop or slow down MS, she also emphasizes the importance of a healthy diet, adequate restful sleep, exercise, spiritual practice, stress management and the value of a supportive group of friends and family.
Dr. Anzalone believes in the power of nature to heal, and loves to go hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking, ATVing and snowmobiling. She’s also quite the foodie, always one of the first to try out a new Denver restaurant. She is an avid supporter of the arts including the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Center for Performing Arts.
